If someone had bet me a thousand dollars 10 years ago that ballet flats, wedged sandals, and flip-flops would make a comeback, I'd be down a thousand bucks easily. But honestly, out of the three, the flip-flops' resurrection was definitely not on any of my bingo cards in the last decade. Who knew the cringe, tourist shoe would ever be trendy once more? Well, here we are in 2025, and they’re everywhere again. (And, not gonna lie, my 28-year-old, zillenial heart is absolutely thrilled about it.)
In this new age of flip-flops (or if you’d rather call them thong sandals, that’s fine too), we've graduated from the rubber thongs and rhinestones era and have leveled up to sleek kitten heels, strappy designs, and elevated materials that give the laidback shoe a much more refined look. No more plastic straps and flimsy construction that'll last for no more than five wears here! Instead, you'll see styles in leather, woven raffia, and suede for a more sophisticated aesthetic that’s meant for beyond the beach boardwalk. The TL;DR? These 2025 flip-flop trends go far beyond anything the early aughts could have imagined.
So, of course, as a shopping editor, it's only right that I show you my favorite flip-flop trends currently taking over the fashion scene. I've rounded up 13 from Amazon, Anthropologie, Dolce Vita, Reformation, and more—fit for all types of occasions and style preferences. Trust me: Thong sandals are here to stay, and they’re about to become your go-to shoes all spring and summer.
